Right now it’s 2018, and some of the top 80’s trends are starting to come back into style worldwide. In the front lines of the vintage comeback are accessories, tops and skirts, including scrunchies, tube tops, and denim skirts. When you take a look at them individually it’s easy to see why they are becoming some of the hottest new 2018 trends of the 80’s fashion revival.

First off, scrunchies. First patented in 1963 by the name of Scünci, the scrunchie reached its peak in the late 80s and early 90s. It’s multipurpose with uses as both a hair tie and bracelet, the hair accessory comes in many different colors, textures and patterns. Enough with the backstory, the popular hair tie is making a huge comeback in 2018 fashion.  LMS 7th grader, Paige Macko, said, “Scrunchies are super trendy because they are cute and comfy, and can be used as a bracelet or hair tie.” 7th grader, Emmery Harrington, also agrees and said, “Scrunchies are a huge nationwide trend, and there is such a huge variety of them.” Many students seem to agree the scrunchie is making a comeback, as almost every teenage girl in 2018 owns one. However, these hair ties aren’t the only fashion trend appearing again from the 80’s.

Adding on, tube tops. This easy to wear fashion accessory is one of the brightest highlights of 80s revival for many reasons. But first, an outlook on tube tops. Tube tops are sleeveless and sport different lengths, the most common being cropped. They first started appearing in the 1950s, but the tube top reached its height in the 1970s through 90s.  Many are supporting this new revival fashion trend, including Drea Yorio, seventh grader. She says the best thing about tube tops is, “…their easy to wear quality, that makes it not hard to pair with many different types of clothes.” Some of the many things tube tops can be paired with are jackets, sweaters, skirts, jeans, leggings and many more.

Last but certainly not least, denim skirts. First appearing in the 1970s, the denim skirt was the most popular in the 80s but are coming back into style recently. From full length to mini, these breezy, fun skirts are perfect for the warmer weather. With summer coming up, people are shifting from full length pants to more comfortable alternatives, and denim skirts are perfect for a shakeup from regular shorts.  Charlotte King added, “They’re a cute, summery, and stylish alternative outfit to wear.”  Another seventh grader, Ella McCarthy agrees saying, “Sometimes I feel bored of shorts, and go to denim skirts to have a fun change.”

In conclusion, the vintage trends from the 80s are taking the fashion world by storm. Some of the highlights of this wave are tube tops, scrunchies and denim skirts. Each of them are unique, and it’s easy to see why after almost 40 years, the 80s are coming back to rock the fashion world.
